About Me

Hello internet at large!

My name is Liz Shayne and I am a graduate student who has just started the first of what will (hopefully) be four years of her English Ph.D. In order to accomplish this, I needed to pick myself up and abandon the East Coast (where I’ve lived my entire life, with the exception of one year abroad) and move to California, leaving behind my friends, most of my winter clothes, all of my furniture, my favorite pieces of wall art and, oh yes, my husband. At least for this year, he’s teaching high school in New York and I’m studying literature out here.

So, as you can see, I am in for quite an adventure. If you’re interested in watching me adapt to my new life, make friends and, inevitably, provide fodder for the more entertaining sections of this blog, feel free to follow along! I welcome new readers and having a clue who I am is by no means necessary to appreciate my stories (though it certainly doesn’t hurt).

If you’re not an RSS feed kind of person, I will also be notifying people of new posts on Twitter and on Google+

Hi Liz. I stumbled upon this, and loved reading it! The part about your rings I read aloud to Rivka, who was gasping as I was. I look forward to reading the continuing adventures….By the way, did you get the contact info for Sara and her parents?

Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.

Yes, thank you for the contact info. I’m still settling in over here (and, of course, then there are the Chagim), but I will probably drop Sara an email sometime soon.
